A sample Flask app that uses Keycloak for user registration and OIDC authentication

I've spent a couple of days exploring Keycloak, Istio, and EKS. The result is a sample Flask app that has these following features: User registration and authentication (OIDC) with Keycloak The app can be running on a local machine, in a Docker container, or inside a service mesh within a Kubernetes cluster and Istio. In that case, Istio and Keycloak were deployed on an EKS cluster following this tutorial [1]. The sample app repository is here [2]. Below are the detail instructions to run the sample app. Prerequisites Have a Keycloak instance up and running and you know the admin user credentials If you want to deploy the app on a Kubernetes cluster with Istio installed, make sure you have admin privileges to the cluster. You also need to install istioctl . Run the application normally 1. Clone the repo, install the requirements git clone https://github.com/dangtrinhnt/keycloak_flask cd keycloak_flask virtualenv ~/keycloak_flask source ~/keycloak_flask/bin/activa...

How to disable public account registration in Open edX

To disable public account registration in Open edX, add this flag to the Features array in lms.env.json and cms.env.json: "FEATURES": { ...     "ALLOW_PUBLIC_ACCOUNT_CREATION" : false } Save and restart the apps: sudo /edx/bin/supervisorctl restart all

Open edX - Login/Register submit button disabled after the first fail attempt

Image
The default login/registration form of Open edX has a bug that will disable the submit button after the first fail attempt and seem like no one want to fix it. Fortunately, you can use the combined login/registration form which does not have that bug. You enable it by enable the following feature flag: "ENABLE_COMBINED_LOGIN_REGISTRATION": true If you're using a custom comprehensive theme, you need to set it as a Site Configuration flag in the Django Admin. But if you're not using a custom theme, you can just set it in your /edx/app/edxapp/lms.env.json file, under the FEATURES list. Then restart your apps and enjoy: $ /edx/bin/supervisorctl restart all

edx-platform - How to make SMTP work on your Open EdX instance the proper way

There were several threads in the Open EdX mailing list asking about how to make the email working. But, it seams like there is no proper instructions out there to help people. So, I decided to write something about that. Firstly, there are 3 simple things to keep in mind: All the authentication information should be kept privately. If you add them to the edx-platform source files there will be conflicts when you upgrade or pull from master/branches. So, the best place to keep all the settings for all your Open edX applications is /edx/app/edx_ansible/server-vars.yml .  0. Checkout all of your modification on: (to avoid source code conflicts) cms/envs/common.py lms/envs/aws.py cms.env.json cms.auth.json lms.env.json lms.auth.json 1. Create  server-vars.yml   in  / edx/app/edx_ansible/ 2. Add these following variables to server-vars.yml with your SMTP information: EDXAPP_EMAIL_BACKEND: 'django.core.mail.backends. smtp.EmailBackend' EDXAPP_EMAIL_HOST: '...
